how do i seal my stone?

Resin rocks are one of my favorites! They are brilliantly glossy and look very similar to a glass-type finish. 

Supplies recommended for resin coating stones:

• Plastic cutting board or matt usually found at Dollar Store
• Measuring spoons
• Plastic or glass container
• Wooden popsicle sticks
• Rubber gloves
• Mixing container (glass or plastic)
• Art Resin (both resin and hardener needed)
• Heat Torch. She uses one from the kitchen supply area. Straw (for removing bubbles)
• Plastic container for covering rocks to protect from dust/hair etc
• Hair tie (for tying hair back) 
• Alcohol-based hand sanitizer for clean up
• Wear a mask and be in a well ventilated area just to be safe

Protecting your painted rocks is so important! This type of sealer is among one of the most popular  often because they can be used all year round (no need for sunny weather) and they are so easy to use! 

There are some that are even soap and water clean up and some that have low or no odor! For my stones, brush-on sealer is a quick and easy way to seal when I'm a little too impatient to carry out the long resin process. 

Polyrethane coatings give a nice shiny seal without being too glossy! They can be purchased in a variety of finishes however from high gloss, to satin, and matte as well! 

They are not usually recommended for outdoor use, however. You do need to be careful not to smear your hard-earned work when using a brush-on sealer. I like to use a spray sealer first and then go in with my brush-on sealer to avoid the smears!

Sealing your stones helps protect them from the elements as well as gives a nice finish to your stone. There are many different options and it can be overwhelming to the any new rock artist but I recommend reading as much as you can as well as experimenting with different products in order to get the best one for your particular project!

There are so many options to choose from each brand, let alone all the different brands out there. 

While I would say most of them will do the job, you might want to know a few differences before purchasing your next sealant for rocks. 

Some questions you may want to ask yourself when choosing a sealer for painted rocks:

• Will you be painting indoors or outdoors?
• Are you painting rocks for outside?
• Do you prefer a glossy or matte finish?
